Rowing at Isekai - General information
All rowing courses take place at the Isekai Rowing Boathouse, centrally located near the U-Bahn stations Eppendorfer Baum or Kellinghusenstraße. You couldn’t explore the beautiful waterways of Hamburg and the Alster in a better way.
Rowing at Hochschulsport is tailored for both those who want to glide smoothly and leisurely over the water and the more ambitious athletes who wish to push themselves. Our rowing course offerings cater to both needs, with a program designed to allow both "athletes" and "enjoyers" to start their rowing journey, make quick progress, and discover new aspects in advanced courses. While the water in the Isebek Canal is not clear, it is clean, and capsizing poses no health risk.
Participation in all courses requires sufficient swimming ability (equivalent to "Freischwimmer" or bronze badge), which must be confirmed with a signature at the start of the course.
Important and Please Note for All Courses:
Be sure to set aside time at the end of the course for cleaning and maintaining the boats.
The instructions of the boat caretaker, dock supervisors, and course leaders must be followed by everyone. They are essential for the smooth operation of the boathouse.
Due to splash water and possible capsizing, bring a second set of comfortable sportswear.
Simple indoor shoes are required in the boats; running shoes are not suitable as they do not fit the boat's foot straps.
There are different types of boats at the Rowing Boathouse:
Explorer: A stable rowing boat for one person, ideal for beginners who want to start with a bit of sportiness. Special clothing is not required. Splash-proof jacket, workout pants, and regular sports shoes are sufficient.
Skiff: A tippy, fast rowing boat for one person, suitable for sporty beginners. Capsizing is not unusual. Special clothing is not required. Splash-proof jacket, workout pants, and regular sports shoes are sufficient.
Gig Boats: Stable crew boats for 2-4 rowers. Ideal for longer tours on the canals or the Alster. Teamwork is central with these boats, and they are suitable for sporty rowers. Special clothing is not required. Splash-proof jacket, workout pants, and regular sports shoes are sufficient.
